Portal 2 DLC Brings New Levels, Challenge Mode and More for Free

The first piece of downloadable content for Portal 2 will bring lots of new things for the recently launched game including new levels, leaderboards and more.

Portal 2 has been released for almost two weeks now, and already Valve has announced that it will be releasing the "Portal 2 DLC #1" pack later this year.

The DLC was already confirmed at the end of last week, but Valve offered more details over the weekend about the new content that is going to appear for Portal 2 "this summer."

According to the company, the first piece of downloadable content will bring new test chambers, leaderboards, and a new challenge mode for both the single-player and the cooperative multiplayer modes.

Valve teased that more things might also be included in the DLC #1 pack for Portal 2, but it can't say for sure what those will be until later this year.

The greatest thing about the DLC, however, is that it will be completely free on all platforms, including the PC or Mac, through Valve's own Steam digital distribution service, as well as on consoles like the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360.

Portal 2 already had day-one DLC released, with a special in-game store selling things like customized skins or hats for the two robots from the cooperative multiplayer mode, Atlas and P-Body.

The fact that these things, which didn't impact actual gameplay, were being sold to players made many fans angry and disappointed, as they felt that the company should have released the special content for free, alongside the complete game.

This new, free DLC will no doubt silence many of those who criticized Valve or accused it of being greedy by selling things to their players.

The Portal 2 DLC #1 pack is going to appear this summer, but more details are going to be released in the following weeks by Valve.
