Learn to Sync Firefox with Your Android Smartphone

Firefox for Android allows users to take their desktop browsing experience to their smartphones. Those who were expecting an Android version of the popular browser will be pleased to find that Firefox 4 is three times faster than the stock browsers.

So far, there have been lots of reports that the Firefox 4 fairs excellent when compared to Android WebKit browser, but seems to be slower than others such as the Dolphin Browser HD.

Even so, Mozilla's browsing application offers several unique features that are certainly going to improve users' experience. One of these traits is the ability to sync Firefox for desktops with the mobile version. While synced, users will be able to access the bar history, bookmarks, open tabs and passwords from either of the two Firefox versions.

To take advantage of this feature you need to setup a Firefox Sync account. Click on the Options tab (Windows) or Preferences (Mac) and choose to Create a New Account.

You'll need to set it up with an email address and a password. The easiest way to sync both browsers is to select the Firefox Sync Server, so make sure you choose this option.

Make sure you save the Sync Key provided, as this will be used to decrypt your encrypted data. You just finished creating the Firefox Sync account.

If you don't have Firefox 4 installed on the phone already, search the Android Market and download it. The application is compatible with devices running Android 2.0 or later.

Open the browser on your phone and swipe the screen to the left and tap on the Preferences tab. Make sure the Enable Sync option is active. You can find the option under Sync. Then simply click Connect.

You'll be provided with a new code on your phone's screen. From the Firefox desktop version on your computer click Preferences / Menu and then the Sync tab. Choose Add a Device, enter the code that is displayed on your phone screen and click Connect.

Your phone's browser will begin syncing with your computer. You will also be able to choose what you would like to sync: bookmarks, passwords, preferences, history and tabs.
