CTIA 2011: SwiftKey Tablet Android App Receives the E-Tech Award

The popular SwiftKey Tablet application for Android has won this year's CTIA E-Tech Award.

Introduced at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) back in January, SwiftKey Tablet is based on SwiftKey for smartphones, which became the top keyboard application on Android Market soon after its launch in summer 2010.

TouchType, the team behind the SwiftKey Tablet worked closely with Google and Motorola to deliver Honeycomb tablet users one of the best text typing experiences.

According to the developer, SwiftKey uses the patent-pending Fluency Prediction Engine which makes typing on tablet devices easier and faster by offering intelligent next-word predictions which are personalized to users’ writing style.

The application is especially designed to boost typing speeds on tablet devices and offers several optimized layouts, as well as error correction.

It will be delivered with a holographic theme, custom skinning, as well as a special “thumb layout” to make two-handed typing easier.

Apparently, SwiftKey Tablet was selected from over 250 entries by the expert judges to win second place in the E-Tech Awards’ Mobile Applications for Productivity, Utility & Public Safety category.

Coincidence or not, the smartphone version of SwiftKey became the most-downloaded paid app on Amazon’s new Appstore for Android right from the first day. Currently, the application is included in the top five among all apps and game downloads.

TouchType CEO Jon Reynolds said, “We are very pleased to have won an Emerging Technology Award at CTIA this year, fighting off some incredibly tough competition, while having such a great first day on Amazon. This continues to define us as a global leader in the text entry space. 2011 couldn’t be more exciting.”

SwiftKey for Android smartphones is currently available for download for $1.79 on Amazon’s Appstore. The awarded SwiftKey Tablet is scheduled to be released on the market soon.
