iCam + iPhone 5 Concept Begs to Be Created

Ever thought what it would be like if Apple took photography so seriously they didn't just produce Aperture but also the hardware that shoots the photos in the first place?

Well, designer Antonio DeRosa did, and he came up with this breathtaking design you can see to the left (not-so-subliminal message to Jony Ive: CRE-ATE i-Cam!). Is that thing cool or what?

The neat part, of course, is the huge iPhone display and dedicated iOS app doing all the legwork - instead of a myriad of buttons scattered across the sides of the interchangeable-lens camera device.

Steve Jobs always preferred touch-screens over buttons, so I’m thinking this thing would have been right up his alley.

And it’s right up Scott Hansen’s alley too. He's a San Francisco based artist who had this to say about DeRosa’s work:

“I would certainly be first in line for something like this; I love the idea of these modular devices that leverage the processing power of computing devices, like an iPhone, that you may already have. I know it’s a long shot, but let’s hope this makes it out of concept-land.”

I’m sure many photographers agree with you on this one, Scott. Heck, even non-artists would buy this thing simply because it’s gorgeous.

Throw Apple’s machiavellian marketing schemes into the mix and the Earth's entire geek population is cast in this fantasy world where every person carrying around an iCam is an artist at heart - think iPod touch commercials, only more dramatic. That’s actually not half bad!

What say you, Apple? Think you guys can pull this one off?

Oh and, by the way, the concept (as you can see) also features the unnanounced iPhone 5 with every rumored technical detail to date, including the elongated home button.

More images below, followed by photography-related news, and do use the comments to share your own thoughts on DeRosa’s brilliant iCam concept.
