Top 10 Fastest Cars in the World 2011

Compiling a list of the world's fastest cars is not an easy task, considering that many people already have their established preferences about which car deserves to occupy a spot in the top. Some of these vehicles are renowned for their acceleration and top speeds, while others for their looks.

This top will deal with cars that you can buy and drive on the streets, and which are not designed for professional competitions exclusively. So, without further ado, these are the fastest cars in 2011.

10. Pagani Zonda F

At number 10, we have the Pagani Zonda F, a supercar that was first introduced to the world back in 2005. It is made up of carbon fiber, and can reach a top speed of 214 miles per hour (345 km/h). It can accelerate to 60 mph (100 kph) in around 3.6 seconds.

The vehicle is powered by a Mercedes-Benz AMG, 48-valve, V12 engine capable of producing 602 horse power (HP) and a torque of 760 lb-ft @ 4000 rotations per minute (rpm). Though a little old, this was still one of the fastest cars in the world in 2011.

9. Lamborghini Aventador

For number 9, competition is stiff between the Pagani Zonda Cinque Roadster, the Ferrari Enzo, the Jaguar XJ220 and the Lamborghini Aventador. For this top, we selected the Aventador, simply due to its massive acceleration capability.

All four candidates have a top speed of 217 mph (349 km/h), but the Lamborghini gets there in 2.9 seconds, whereas all others need 3.4+ seconds to do so. The monster is powered by a 6.5-liter, V12, 700-HP engine, and sells for about $379,700 (about 291,000 euros) a piece.

8. Noble M600

At a top speed of 223 miles (358.8 kilometers) per hour, the Noble M600 occupies the 8th position in our top. The supercar can reach 60 mph (100 kp/h) in just 3.0 seconds. It was first released on June 23, 2011, and is priced at $324,680 (about 248,825 euro).

A Yamaha 4.4-liter, Twin Turbo V8 engine is providing 650 HP, at a torque of 604 lb-ft @ 3800 rpm. This is one of the cheapest supercars for the sheer amount of performance it can produce.

7. Gumpert Apollo

At number 7, we have the 2006 Gumpert Apollo, which is manufactured by the Germany-based Gumpert Sportwagenmanufaktur GmbH. At a top speed of 225 mph (362 km/h), this is still one of the fastest supercars in the world.

Powered by a 4.2-liter, bi-turbo V8 engine capable of developing 700 HP, the car can reach 60 mph in less than 3 seconds. Its price ranges between $288,000 and $438,000 (220,715 and 335,670 euros).

6. McLaren F1

The 6th position in our top is occupied by the McLaren F1, which was the world's fastest street car for many years. With a top speed of 240 mph (386 kp/h), it can hold its own against any competitors. It can accelerate to 60 mph in just 3.2 seconds.

Ever since it first appeared, the F1 has remained a leader in the supercar department, primarily through the extreme engineering that went into creating this beast. Its BMW-designed, V12 Mid Engine RWD can produce 627 HP. Such a car can be yours for $970.000 (743,380 euros).

5. Koenigsegg CCX

At number 5, we have the Koenigsegg CCX, a remarkable work of art, and one of the most brutal machines in terms of performance. Its 90-degree, 32-valve, V8 engine can develop 806 HP and a torque of 693 lb-ft @ 5,500 rpm.

When the need arises, the supercar can reach 245 mph (395 km/h), and naught to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds. Considering that it was first introduced to the world in 2006, this is an achievement in itself. A Koenigsegg CCX can be yours for $540,000 (about 413,840 euros).

4. Saleen S7 Twin-Turbo

The Saleen S7 Twin-Turbo is found at number 4, simply because it is arguably one of the best supercars of all time, and also one of the very select few true supercars to come out of America. With a bit of an effort, it can reach 248 mph (400 km/h).

It reaches 60 mph in just 2.8 seconds, and is powered by a twin-turbo V8 engine capable of developing 750 HP, with a torque of 700 lb-ft @ 4800 rpm. This little jewel can be yours for around $555,000 (425,336 euros).

3. SSC Ultimate Aero

The base price of $970,000 (743,380 euros) should warn you that the next entry in this top is not to be trifled with. The SSC Ultimate Aero is at number 3, with a whooping top speed of 257.4 mph (414 km/h), and the ability to accelerate to 60 mph in just 2.78 seconds.

Its proprietary V8 engine develops 1,287 HP and a torque of 1112 lb-ft @ 6150 rpm. The vehicle was based developed on the Lamborghini Diablo, and the modifications its manufacturers made saw the creation of a supercar that easily exceeds 400 km/h.

2. Hennessey Venom GT

Tying with the Koenigsegg Agera R for the second position, the Hennessey Venom GT is the runner-up in our top. With an estimated top speed of 275 mph (442.4 km/h), and the ability to reach 200 miles per hour in just 15.9 seconds, this beast is something to be reckoned with.

With a base price of $950,000 (728,053 euros), the Hennessey is propelled by a 6.2-liter, LS9 V8 twin-turbo engine that develops between 725 and 1,200 HP. With a torque of 1155 lb-ft @ 4200 rpm, the supercar can accelerate from naught to 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds.

1. Bugatti Veyron Super Sport

As most of you started suspecting by now, the first place is reserved for the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport. It is currently the fastest car in the world, with a top speed of 268 mph (431 km/h). It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.4 seconds, and from 0 to 100 mph in 5 seconds.

Its 8.0-liter, W16-cylinder, DOHC quad-turbocharger engine can develop 1,200 HP, and a torque of 1105 lb-ft. The mechanical marvel can be yours for as little as $2.4 million (1.83 million euros).

So, there you have it, the best machines we could pit against each other in a relatively-fair combat. Most of these cars are simply overkill, designed solely to see whether they can be done or not. Many thanks to The Super Cars for compiling the guidelines to this top.
