Xperia PLAY Tastes Android 2.3.3 at Rogers

Canadian mobile phone carrier Rogers has started to roll out a new software update for one of the Sony Ericsson handsets that it added to its offering earlier this year, namely the Xperia PLAY.

The wireless carrier has just started to make the Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread operating system flavor available for the owners of this handset, a newer OS version than the one available on the device before.

Recently, the wireless services provider started the release of the same platform version for the Xperia arc devices on its network, and is now upgrading the Xperia PLAY as well.

Along with all of the enhancements that the newer flavor of Android brings forth, users will also benefit from specific improvements that Sony Ericsson packed with the new update.

Among these, we can count the Facebook inside Xperia feature, which debuted on the market on Xperia mini and Xperia mini pro handsets, and which is being rolled-out on other Android-based devices from Sony Ericsson as well.

With it, users will have Facebook at their fingertips anywhere on the mobile phone, including the picture gallery, music player, or phonebook, as well as in other menus.

“Update your software to benefit from Facebook fully integrated with your multimedia apps, phonebook and calendar. Upgrade to the latest Android platform for smartphones, Gingerbread 2.3.3,” the leading mobile phone maker notes on its support website.

At the same time, the company notes that users will benefit from a series of security fixes for Gingerbread that Google packed with the new software update.

Xperia PLAY owners on Rogers' airwaves should receive notifications on the availability of the new software update, and they will be able to upgrade the handsets right away.

At the same time, they can also check for the availability of the software on their devices, or use the PC Companion from Sony Ericsson to upgrade to Android 2.3.3. (via)
