Motorola XOOM Wi-Fi Officially Launched in the US

Motorola has just announced the availability of the Wi-Fi only Motorola XOOM from major retailers in the United States starting March 27th.

The device will be found at both online and brick and mortar stores such as Amazon.com, Best Buy, Costco, RadioShack, Sam's Club, Staples and Walmart.

Unfortunately, customers who had high hopes regarding the tablet's price will probably be disappointed as the manufacturer has announced a suggested retail price of $599 for the 32 GB version.

However, the Motorola XOOM Wi-Fi will also be available to commercial IT channels and regional retailers through a distribution agreement with Synnex Corporation and regional carriers through Brightpoint, Inc.

“Motorola XOOM is a truly innovative tablet – its design, coupled with being the first tablet to have Android 3.0, results in a user experience that is one-of-a-kind,” said Dan Papalia, vice president of retail sales for Motorola Mobility.

“We are now continuing to expand the choices available to consumers with the MOTOROLA XOOM Wi-Fi to be available soon from numerous leading retailers in the United States.”

XOOM is Motorola's first tablet to run on Google's Honeycomb mobile platform and comes with a large, widescreen 10.1-inch capacitive touch display with 16 million colors support and 800 x 1280 pixels resolution.

With a 1GHz dual-core processor, 1 GB of RAM, as well as Google Chrome browser, the tablet offers users a fast web-browsing performance.

Motorola XOOM supports a beta version of Adobe Flash Player 10.2 which can be downloaded from Android Market.

According to the manufacturer, the XOOM can operate for up to 10 hours on a single battery charge.

Along with the Wi-Fi only XOOM, Motorola has also announced a series of global developer events which will take place in 11 cities across North America, Europe, Latin America and Asia.

These events are intended to give developers access to tools, support and discussions with Motorola's team of Android experts.
